Samsung to increase QD-OLED production, aims to get orders from Apple

Earlier this year, Samsung revealed its first QD-OLED TV, and it went on to become among the highest-rated TVs of the year. It uses the QD-OLED panel made by Samsung Display, the company's display manufacturing arm. Now, it is being reported that the company will increase its QD-OLED production.

According to a report from UBI Research (via TheElec), Samsung Display has decided to produce QD-OLED panels at its upcoming 8.7-Gen A5 production line. The company is looking to bag orders from multiple firms, including Apple, for high-end monitors. The company has already supplied its QD-OLED panels to Dell Alienware. The company plans to provide QD-OLED panels for bigger monitors and Super AMOLED panels for laptops and tablets.

It is reported that Samsung will use a new deposition system at its new production line, reducing the overall production cost. However, only time will tell if the South Korean firm can get orders from Apple for its rumored high-end monitor. The current high-end monitor from Apple uses a Mini-LED panel, and to leave the Mini-LED panel, the QD-OLED panel needs to be really bright while improving upon the colors and longevity.

LG is also looking to expand to the monitor segment with its WRGB OLED panels. After years of wait, OLED screens have finally hit the PC monitor and laptop segment, but only time will tell if the technology is ready, given their bad performance in terms of longevity and burn-in issues.
