Galaxy S20 series gets Android 13 One UI 5.0 update in Samsung’s home turf

The Galaxy S20 series (the S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra) started getting the Android 13 and One UI 5.0 update back in early November, along with a bunch of other smartphones, such as the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. And now, three weeks later, Samsung has finally released the Galaxy S20 One UI 5.0 update in its home country.

South Korean Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra owners can now download the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update start taking advantage of all the new features (or, well, maybe not all the new features). Unfortunately, it seems Samsung hasn't included the November 2022 security patch in the update. Instead, you get the October security patch, just like the update for international models.

Say hello to the final big OS upgrade, Galaxy S20 owners

This will be the final big OS upgrade for the Galaxy S20 lineup. None of them, except the Galaxy S10 Lite, are compatible with Android 14, as they launched running Android 9.0 Pie and Samsung only promised three years of OS upgrades for these devices (with an additional year or two of security updates). It's a shame, as we've said before, but Galaxy S20 owners are just going to have to live with it until they upgrade to a newer phone.

All that said, One UI 5.0 (Android 13) runs great on all Galaxy S20 smartphones despite being the third major OS release for them. Samsung will probably also bring some One UI 5.1 features from the Galaxy S23 series to the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, although we can't be certain about that until the Galaxy S23 hits retail shelves next year.

In any case, back to the matter at hand. To download the Android 13/One UI 5.0 upgrade on your Galaxy S20, S20+, or S20 Ultra over the air, just tap Download and install inside the phone's Settings » Software update menu. If you would rather upgrade manually through a Windows PC, you can download the Android 13 firmware from our archive.
