Samsung is making a big move towards supporting local Indian languages on their devices and has announced that it will offer its smartphone and tablet UI in nine Indian languages – Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Gujarati. The Galaxy S4, Grand, and Tab 3 will get support for the new languages from today (through a software update we presume), while the Galaxy Star will be added to the list later this month (if you're wondering why these devices are first in line, it's because they are among best-selling Samsung devices in the country today).

In addition to the UI, a few Samsung apps from Samsung's App Store will also be made available in these languages, such as ChatOn, Facebook, Gmail and Newshunt. “We will be adding more languages and eventually have it across our smartphone portfolio,” said Vineet Taneja, country head, Samsung mobile and IT, Samsung India. The support will later be extended to other third-party apps such as Bharat Matrimony, Ganesh speak. India property, Times of India, BSE and Mydala.
