Samsung had filed a motion in July requesting a new trial for Apple's bounce-back patent and yesterday, US District Judge Lucy Koh denied Samsung's motion for the new trial. The bounce-back feature was a rubber-band-like animation that occured when a user scrolled at the end of the page. The trial between Apple and Samsung alleged 20 products to infringe on the ‘381 bounce-back patent but the jury found 18 infringing devices, ultimately rewarding Apple $1.05b in damages.
The judge however, had reduced the damages by $450.5m earlier this year and had ordered for a retrial, which is scheduled for this November.
