Samsung's great at hardware, but when it comes to software, everyone agrees that the company has nowhere near as good as hardware since, well, forever. But that's something Samsung has admitted at the Analyst Day meeting today in Korea, and has revealed that almost half of the R&D workforce is now focusing on improving software, and the efforts are to grow further in the coming months.
Samsung's recent acquisitions of software startups are part of the effort to “address region-specific needs,” and we can only hope some of these efforts are put into TouchWiz as well, which has incessantly become more and more slow, bloated, and unoptimized as Samsung has continued to cram in every feature possible, making the experience a poor one unless one uses the company's high-end devices.
