Samsung’s Analyst Day event in Korea earlier this month revealed an interesting tidbit of information – the Korean manufacturer unveiled plans to bring out smartphones in 2014 with displays that have a high pixel density of 560ppi on screen sizes as low as 5-inches (that makes for a resolution of 2560 x 1440). Now, it seems like the Galaxy S5 might be the first Samsung handset with such a display, as the company is supposedly ready to mass produce 560ppi AMOLED panels.
The confirmation comes from Samsung Display CEO Kinam Kim, according to OLED.at. This is also a good indication that the rumors of Samsung working on AMOLED tablets could come true as well, though for now the focus will likely be on smartphones, especially the Galaxy S5 (a 560ppi display would be a good feature Samsung would no doubt flaunt). The current 1080p screens are already more than sharp enough, so 2560 x 1440 displays do seem overkill, but then again, there was a time when we thought Full HD displays would be overkill too, right?
