Samsung has huge plans for its mobile division for the coming year, but when it comes to smartphones, the company might have reduced its sales expectations by a considerable amount. Earlier reports said Samsung was aiming to sell around 360 million smartphones next year, but now a new report says that target has been lowered to 330 million – still quite a bit higher from the 290 million sales target Samsung had set for 2013, but if the report is accurate, it would seem the Korean manufacturer isn't putting all its eggs in the smartphone basket.
The reason for this is unknown, but previous reports offer some insight into the reduced smartphone sales target – Samsung is expected to focus on tablets in 2014, with tablets with AMOLED displays and large screen sizes (12.2-inch and 13.3-inch) reportedly in the pipeline. There's also the fact that the smartphone market has reached a saturation point, especially the high-end segment, and while low-end devices are something Samsung is said to be increasing focus on, they probably don't want to set dazzling expectations that they might not be able to meet.
