Samsung is an industry leader and innovator when it comes to hardware, be it smartphone or TV displays, memory chips, hard drives, or mobile processors, but company chairman Lee Kun Hee thinks its employees need to adopt new ways of thinking and move beyond their focus on hardware. “We have to change once again,” Lee said today in emails sent to company workers. “We must give a bigger push for innovations, including in business structure, so that we can lead industry trends.”
A change in business structure is partly in motion, as Samsung moves to focus on the tablet market and at launching well-priced smartphones aimed at providing growth at a time when the high-end market is getting more and more saturated by the day. Hopefully, a focus on innovating on the software side is also something the company has a New Year resolution for, a move that would give us a faster, better-looking Android skin on future devices, and maybe help the company launch its oft-delayed Tizen as soon as possible.
