We have already confirmed that the Galaxy S5 will be launched sometime in April, but there's still no confirmation on when Samsung will make an official announcement about its upcoming flagship. Everyone is expecting the company to do what it always does – hold a dedicated event sometime in March, but according to Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin, Samsung will not be waiting that long this time around, and will announce the Galaxy S5 on February 23rd, just a day before MWC kicks off in Barcelona, followed by a launch in late April.
Now, while Murtazin has never been to be that accurate with his leaks, the man did offer the correct launch date for the Galaxy S4 last year, which makes it pretty certain that the S5 will launch before April comes to an end. However, considering the fact that Samsung is expected to show off Tizen on the same day as well, the probability of the company announcing the Galaxy S5 on that day is quite less, as it would take away all the limelight away from the Tizen announcement. However, it would also let the company steal the limelight away from whatever get announced during the four days of MWC from other manufacturers, and that alone would give them a nice head start over the competition, who are no doubt working on nice flagship devices of their own.
In the end, no matter when Samsung announces its next flagship, we'll only be able to get our hands on one in mid- to late April. But for those that like to see all the details on a device as soon as possible, well, a February announcement would be right up their alley. And if this rumor turns out to be incorrect, that wouldn't be a problem either, since we pretty much know all we need to know about the Galaxy S5 anyway.
