An image recently leaked by SamsungGalaxyS5.nl claims to showcase the rear side of the retail Galaxy S5 box. The design and styling of the box looks eerily similar to that of the retail boxes that the Galaxy S4 and Note 3. Considering the fact that it is not difficult to juxtapose fake hardware details onto a Note 3 or S4 box, this image might as well turn out to be a hoax, so take the following news with a grain of salt. The box does claim to list out the alleged specs of the Galaxy S5, although they seem to differ from those listed in the latest round of rumors. The details that are in line with what we’ve seen include a QHD (2560 x 1440) screen, 2.5 GHz CPU, which is most likely going to be the Snapdragon 805, 3 GB RAM and LTE Category 4 connectivity.
However, the similarities end there. The box lists the camera as a 20 MP offering, which is in contrast to the 16 MP ISOCELL variant that Samsung is said to include in the Galaxy S5. There was a rumor that Samsung might consider making a 20 MP sensor, but that did not gain any traction, and subsequent rumors suggested a 16 MP sensor on the S5. Also, video recording is listed as full-HD, which contradicts the 4K recording rumors that we’ve heard regarding the ISOCELL sensor.
Furthermore, the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 boxes list the first number of the camera quality in bold, which in their cases is “1”, referring to the 13 MP sensor included in those devices. On the box image, however, the “2” is not in bold. The battery size is similarly listed as 3,000 mAh on the box, which is different to the 3,200 mAh listing we’ve seen in rumors.
