Samsung has launched a software development kit (SDK) for its upcoming Tizen-based smartwatches, the Gear 2 and the cheaper Gear 2 Neo, to court developers into building apps for the new wearables. Samsung never launched an SDK for the original Gear, which ultimately limited the number of third-party apps available for the company's first smartwatch. However, the smartwatch market has been heating up recently, and the launch of the SDK for the Gear 2/Gear 2 Neo will help the Korean manufacturer create a much larger ecosystem of third-party apps for its wearables and make them much more attractive to consumers as well.
The SDK is available for download right away from the Tizen Developers website, which should allow developers to have their apps ready before the new smartwatches hit markets. If you haven't done so already, don't forget to check out our hands-on review of the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.
