Samsung is aggressively pushing its line of 4K TVs, but has found little success thus far. One of the main reasons for this is the dearth of original 4K content. Samsung is looking to fix that by offering a hard drive that comes pre-loaded with 4K movies. The UHD Video Pack is a $300 1 TB hard drive that comes with 4K versions of five Hollywood movies: The Counselor, Night At The Museum, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and World War Z. In addition, Samsung has also announced that it has signed a licencing deal with 20th Century Fox to bring original 4K content to Samsung UHD TVs using the SmartHub platform.
Along with Fox, Samsung has also inked deals with Netflix, M-Go and Amazon. Through this deal, it is likely that streaming 4K content will be delivered directly to Samsung's UHD line of TVs. Kyungshik Lee, Senior VP of the Service Strategy Team of Visual Display Business for Samsung said that such deals were the best way to push more 4K content to its 4K TVs. “Our strategic partnership with 20th Century Fox is a great example of how the industry is working towards bringing UHD content to end-consumers in the most efficient way while accelerating our ability to provide a full UHD ecosystem.”
