The Galaxy S5 didn't turn out to have a QHD (2560×1440) display despite months of rumors saying it would, but we still didn't lose hope of seeing a Samsung phone with that ultra-high resolution, especially since the company had said that QHD phones are on the horizon. Today, thanks to a benchmark listing, we're possibly getting a look at what could be the first Samsung phone with a QHD display – a Samsung SM-G906S can be seen on benchmark site GFXBench, listed with a screen resolution of 2560×1440. The model number is higher than that of the Galaxy S5's (SM-G900*), which would back the recent statement from a Samsung official saying the company was working on a separate premium line of devices.
The SM-G906S seems to have quite a lot of power under the hood, considering it managed to beat the Galaxy S5 – which has a lot less pixels to push but is powered by the fastest Snapdragon chipset currently available – in a couple of tests, which means that if a QHD device does show up in the future, it likely won't be left wanting for processing power, something that is a primary concern for ultra-high resolution devices at the moment. Unfortunately, when (and if) this device will see the light of day continues to remain a mystery at this point, though considering the fact that 1080p displays are more than enough on smartphones, that isn't going to drive too many people crazy with impatience.
Update: More specs of the SM-G906S have emerged on GFXBench – these include a Snapdragon 805 CPU clocked at 2.5GHz with an Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 5.2-inch display and a 15.8-megapixel rear camera. That's enough to lend further credence to the fact that a super-premium Galaxy S flagship could be in the works, and now it's all a matter of waiting for more information to rear its face in the coming months.
