Being able to use the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S5 to make PayPal payments is one of the handset's most useful functions, and today, PayPal has announced that their fingerprint-based authentication system has gone live in 25 countries, on the same day as the Galaxy S5 was launched worldwide. Users will be able to swipe down on the home button on the device to authenticate PayPal payments on the web, apps and in retail stores without needing to log in to their PayPal account every time.

PayPal has also announced apps for the Gear 2 (and Gear 2 Neo) and Gear Fit. The apps will be available from the Samsung Apps store and will allow users to make payments from their smartwatch/fitness tracker, check their PayPal balance, get payment notifications, and save offers from local stores and retailers right from their wrist.
