Samsung outsold HTC by a factor of four with the Galaxy S4

New sales statistics by Bloomberg revealed that Samsung outsold HTC’s One by a factor of four last year. In the first two months of availability, Samsung managed to accrue over 20 million sales for the Galaxy S4, while HTC managed only 5 million sales of the One. While aggressive advertising and marketing by Samsung was a crucial factor in the strong sales of the Galaxy S4, HTC’s own woes contributed to its troubles with the One. The same situation is being seen again this year, as the Galaxy S5 is off to a stellar start, nearly doubling the launch day sales of the Galaxy S4 in some markets.

Meanwhile, in what is eerily reminiscent of last year, the One (M8) has struggled to gain traction from consumers. However, it looks like HTC isn’t entirely reliant on sales of the One (M8) this year, as was the case with the One last year. The Taiwanese manufacturer is set to focus on the budget segment with devices like the Desire 816. Samsung, on the other hand, is all set to lavish its attention on the wearable segment after launching a host of new tablets and mobiles this year. The South Korean manufacturer will also launch its first Tizen handset and is likely to launch a new form factor for the Galaxy Note 4. With the growth of the high-end mobile segment steadily decreasing, Samsung is looking to other segments for growth.
