Earlier this year, we heard of a new variant of the Galaxy S4, dubbed the Galaxy S4 Value Edition. This phone went through the necessary certifications that every device goes through before launch, and then it disappeared, forgotten with time. Well, the Galaxy S4 Value Edition seems to have risen from obscurity, as the device is now available from at least one retailer in the Netherlands. It is priced at €398 (~$540) and can be bought in white and silver, and apart from running Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, is exactly the same phone as the original Galaxy S4.
Since Android 4.4 is available as an update for the original S4, the Galaxy S4 Value Edition loses its importance pretty quickly. Of course, Samsung doesn't really care if it launches the same old devices with a small upgrade here and there, so I guess the Galaxy S4 Value Edition will find a few buyers like all Samsung phones. There's no word on when it will arrive in other markets – well, it's not like there's something interesting in this handset, so I'm sure no one will be disappointed if it never sees a mass rollout.
