Samsung’s 7-inch phone-cum-tablet (SM-T2558) certified by FCC

It looks like Samsung is very close to launching the SM-T2558, a device we came across earlier this month when it was certified by Chinese regulation authorities, and one that sports a 7-inch screen but looks pretty much like a gigantic phone instead of a tablet. The SM-T2558 has received certification from the FCC, which suggests that it could soon get an official announcement. Previous rumors indicate that the device will be launched as the Galaxy W in South Korea and could be the Galaxy Mega 2 for other markets, though its model number suggests we're not looking a phablet (the T in the model number is usually reserved for tablets.)

The SM-T2558 sports a 720p display, quad-core 1.2GHz processor (probably a Snapdragon 400), 1.5GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, 8GB of storage expandable via a microSD slot, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (this should change to Android 4.4 if it launches in major markets.) With the FCC certification in hand, it shouldn't be long before we find out what the SM-T2558 really is – a phone, phablet, tablet, or something else entirely.
