Rumor: Galaxy Note 4 to feature 12-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization

In the latest report from the Korean media about the Galaxy Note 4, it is said that Samsung's next-generation phablet flagship will sport a 12-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. Right off the bat, this seems like a rather odd rumor, especially since it's pretty much a tradition that the Galaxy Note series has always carried the same camera unit as the last Galaxy S flagship, and not to mention that a 16-megapixel camera is more or less confirmed to be present on the Galaxy Note 4 (something our own sources have confirmed to us.)

According to the report, Samsung has adopted for a 12-megapixel sensor in order to keep the Note 4 as thin as possible, with production facilities for the 12MP camera set up and ready to go. Meanwhile, the front-facing camera will be a 3.7-megapixel unit, something that we also saw on leaked benchmarks for the Galaxy Note 4 earlier this week.

This is certainly one of those rumors that we wouldn't give much credence. The only reason we can think of for the Note 4 sporting just a 12-megapixel camera is if Samsung has found it hard to put in hardware optical image stabilization on the 16MP Sony sensor the Note 4 is expected to use, but again, this is a rumor best taken with a giant pinch of salt.
