Samsung has announced that it will be donating 3,000 smartphones (worth $1 million) to support the ongoing fight against the Ebola virus in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, three of the worst-hit African countries. The company will be donating the Galaxy S3 Neo to around 60 Ebola medical clinics through the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs. The phones will come installed with the UN’s Smart Health Pro mobile app, which will help medical staff in collecting medical data, and the phones will also be used by quarantined patients for contacting their families.

The Korean manufacturer will also be launching an Ebola SMS service in Africa and offering financial support for the purchase of hazmat suits in Ghana. Samsung also points out that the donated devices will be destroyed once the virus outbreak has subsided, and it's good to see the company lending a hand in the fight against the most dangerous human disease that has reared its face in recent times, one that has claimed more than 4,000 lives in the African continent.
