Samsung is slowly expanding the availability of the Gear S smartwatch in various markets around the world. Last week, it was announced that the SIM-equipped smartwatch will be available in the US starting November 7. Now, Samsung has announced the Gear S for its home market, South Korea. The device will be available for 297,000 Won ($277) through KT and SK Telecom in Blue-Black and White colours. The Tizen-based Gear S can function independently without a need to rely on a companion smartwatch. It features a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. It is one of the most advanced smartwatches in the market when it comes to connectivity options. It is equipped with 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, and A-GPS.
Samsung has collaborated with Nokia to bring HERE maps to the Gear S for location and navigation solution. Other applications include Fleksy keyboard, Nike+ running app, S Voice and Opera Mini. It features a heart-rate sensor, pedometer, and a UV sensor for health and fitness tracking. Samsung acclaims that its 300 mAh battery is enough for it to last 2 days after a full charge.
