Samsung made its first Tizen smartphone for consumers, the Samsung Z1, official in India today. The company is targeting potential Indian users with features such as “localized entertainment apps and a simple user interface” and touting Tizen as a lightweight platform with “enhanced web performance, a faster boot time, and quick access to apps.” The Z1 features a 4-inch WVGA (800×480) PLS TFT display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor that is paired with 768MB RAM. It will be available for Rs. 5,700 (about $91) starting today.

The Z1 also comes with a 3.1-megapixel rear camera, a VGA front-facing camera, dual SIM slots, and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and 3G connectivity. The phone is powered by a 1,500mAh battery, and Samsung has packed in features like Ultra Power Saving Mode, which are becoming a common sight on the company's Android phones these days. There's also 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD slot that supports up to 64GB of microSD cards.

There are also a few useful features that will come bundled with Tizen. Users will be able to quickly reach out for assistance in any emergency situation, and grab the latest Indian music from Hungama.com. Like Android, Tizen will automatically scan apps for viruses during installation. Also, the phone will come with a free entertainment package that will offer users free access to premium content on Club Samsung, including over 270,000 songs, movies, and over 80 live TV shows.

The Samsung Z1 will be offered in white, black and wine red, with Reliance and Aircel network subscribers to get 500MB of 3G data for six months. The Z1 sounds like a very good deal for those on a budget thanks to all the goodies that Samsung has bundled with the device, but it will hopefully also offer a great user experience despite the low-end hardware.
