Last week we reported that Samsung isn't going to use Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 for all Galaxy S6 models and instead its going to rely on its own Exynos processors. At that time no confirmation came in from either Samsung or LG. It was presumed that Samsung had made this decision due to the overheating issues that Snapdragon 810 is reportedly facing but the possibility exists that its purely a business decision by Samsung. Without naming the Korean juggernaut Qualcomm has now confirmed that a “large customer” has dropped Snapdragon 810 from its flagship device.
Qualcomm revealed this when it announced that the company is adjusting its revenue expectations for the second half of 2015 because a large customer has decided not to go with the Snapdragon 810 processor for its flagship device.
Samsung perfectly fits the “large customer” description and there aren't that many OEMs that can cause Qualcomm to adjust its revenue expectations if they elect not to go with its processor in one of their devices.
This doesn't mean that Samsung no longer going to conduct business with Qualcomm. The company may still use Snapdragon 810 in some Galaxy S6 variant or for a future device. Though as it stands it appears that majority of the Galaxy S6 variants will be powered by Samsung's Exynos chips.
