US Cellular today released a new software update for users who are sporting a Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 or a Galaxy Note 3. Users shouldn't get their hopes up because this is only an updated build of KitKat, they won't go past Android 4.4.2, so don't expect to get a taste of Lollipop with this update. However today's release does bring some improvements for the dialer and camera software on these devices. Tweaks for Google powered services are also included in this update, like the Google Keyboard for example, which gets new emoji characters.
The new software update for Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3 on US Cellular enables “OK Google” hotword detection by default in the Google Search app. They also come with the new Google Hangouts app which brings SMS integration.
Users now also have the ability to search for places, businesses, contacts and people in their Google Apps domain. The camera app for all three devices gets touch-to-focus with improved controls for exposure and focus.
US Cellular users who have a Galaxy S5 should look out for version G900R4VXU1ANK1. Note 4 and Note 3 users get N910R4TYU1ANK5 and N900R4TYUCNG5 respectively.
