DisplayMate crowns the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge as “best mobile displays ever tested”

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have made headlines ever since their unveiling at MWC 2015. Both devices are made of tough metal casing and Gorilla Glass 4, and are even faster than their predecessors. At the same time, there’s more to a smartphone than just its looks or speed. The visual experience of the display counts just as much.

DisplayMate expert Raymond Soneira put the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge through the company's rigorous testing recently to see how they’d stack up against their competitors. The result? Samsung’s new smartphones are the best of the class.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge won commendation from DisplayMate for their color accuracy in basic screen mode, with the company rating both models “the most color accurate display that we have ever measured” and “visually indistinguishable from perfect” in their appearance. In brightness, the S6 models rank as “the brightest mobile display that we have ever tested.” Keep in mind that Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have been commended for their color accuracy, even though Samsung utilizes AMOLED display panels instead of LCDs, which have often been praised for their more true-to-life colors than Samsung’s Super AMOLED resolutions.

DisplayMate expert Raymond Soneira also praised Samsung in his report for the S6 and S6 edge’s commitment to 20% better display power efficiency in the S6 than the S5, while also noting that Samsung’s S6 models are “23 percent more power efficient than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus” when it comes to words and pictures (mixed content). Samsung’s AMOLED displays produce deep, dark colors, and sip very little battery when the display is black. If you’ve ever tried Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving Mode, you’ve seen Samsung’s display power efficiency in action.

Finally, Soneira commends OLED displays and chides LCDs for their failure to keep up with OLED screens in the current market. Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus remain the best LCDs on the market, but they take a backseat to Samsung’s newest models in Soneira’s report.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge were announced prior to the start of MWC 2015 in stellar fashion, with the company introducing wireless charging, a curved display (S6 edge), improved TouchWiz UI, and its mobile payment solution Samsung Pay  into its Galaxy S line. So far, 20 million pre-orders have been placed for the company’s newest smartphones, and Samsung's Galaxy S line is poised for a bold new comeback in 2015.
