Apple has a habit of claiming that the camera on the iPhone is best in class. Samsung has consistently been able to put better cameras on its devices. Even LG's 2014 flagship could perform better in low light conditions than the iPhone. Now that Samsung has announced the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge it's inevitable to avoid a camera shootout between these smartphones and the iPhone. Niels de Boissezon from Mobilsiden.dk has done a Galaxy S6 edge vs iPhone 6 Plus camera comparison which shows just how better the Galaxy S6 edge's camera is in all situations.
Boissezon writes on reddit that the Galaxy S6 edge offers much better low-light performance, provides slightly better resolution, dynamic range and bokeh than the iPhone 6 Plus and obviously touts a “much, much higher” video resolution. Samsung's flagship equals the iPhone 6 Plus in focus speed and color reproduction. He finds that the iPhone 6 Plus is strongest in AF as it pumps less during video capture and the fact that it can record 240 fps slow motion video. Samsung told him that the camera software he tested is final so that's what one can expect on retail units of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge.
The comparison shots are embedded below. Pictures taken with the iPhone 6 Plus are on the top. Those taken with the Galaxy S6 edge are right below them. Boissezon matched the resolution to 12 megapixels on both so that the pictures were easier to compare. Some 100% crops have been singled out to show just how good they are.
