The Galaxy J series currently has only one smartphone, the Galaxy J1, which was released earlier this year. Now, we bring you some exclusive information regarding two upcoming smartphones in this series – the Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7.
The Galaxy J5 (SM-J500F) will feature a 5.0-inch HD TFT LCD display, a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, and a 2,600 mAh battery. The Galaxy J7 (SM-J700F) on the other hand will feature a 5.5-inch HD TFT LCD display, 1.2 GHz or 1.5 GHz octa-core Marvel PXA1936 processor, 1.5GB RAM, 4GB/8GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, and a 3,000 mAh battery.
The Galaxy J5 will have an 8.5 mm thin profile and a weight of 149 grams, while the Galaxy J7 will be 7.9 mm thin, and will weigh 170 grams. In the imaging department, both the devices will feature a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel secondary camera. Both of them will come with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, and will be compatible with 4G LTE networks. There is a possibility of final versions of these devices launching with 8-megapixel rear cameras instead of 13-megapixel ones.
Samsung started using single-letter naming convention starting late 2014 with the Galaxy A series. Soon, this expanded to the Galaxy J series and the Galaxy E series, which showcased Samsung's attempt to clean-up and simplify its messy smartphone naming convention.
The Galaxy A series consists of higher mid-range smartphones with Super AMOLED displays, thin metal unibodies, and high-resolution front-facing cameras. The Galaxy E series consists of mid-range smartphones, which are similar to the Galaxy A series in terms of specifications, but the metal unibody. The Galaxy J series on the other hand are lower mid-range smartphones with 64-bit processors and 4G LTE connectivity.
