It's no secret that Samsung needs a turnaround in mobile sales and it appears that the Galaxy S6 just might deliver the goods. After multiple rumors of high pre-order volume of both new handsets Samsung itself has confirmed that it expects record shipments of the Galaxy S6. Samsung estimates that its January-March operating profit will be its highest in three quarters primarily because it decided to go with its own chips for the new handsets.
At a media event on Thursday the company's mobile chief J.K. Shin said that Samsung will probably not be able to keep up with demand for the Galaxy S6 edge as the curved displays are harder to manufacture. The company has not provided concrete shipment figures for the new devices as yet so it's unclear just how many units Samsung expects to ship in this quarter. Shin also mentioned during the media event that Samsung is developing a variety of wearable devices including but not limited to a new Gear smartwatch.
