Samsung today announced that it has signed an MoU with Korean telecommunications giant LG U+ to jointly work on developing next generation 5G technology, this agreement will also boost Korea's lead in 5G research as well as aid in the creation of standards for the next major frontier in mobile telecommunication. Samsung's leading technology and LG U+'s experience and understanding of end-user preferences as well as service and applications trends will be a powerful combination to drive R&D for next generation 5G networks.
The partnership will focus on 5G global spectrum identification and acquisition, co-development of 5G technology which includes Full Dimension Multiple Input Multiple Output (FD-MIMO) antennas as well as the global standardization of 5G technologies. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding marks the formal start of this partnership between Samsung and LG U+, over 100 senior staff from both companies attended the ceremony which also featured an in-depth discussion on how both companies are going to collaborate, resulting in a “5G Readiness Target” set for the year 2020.
