Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ last month, and the company is now putting all its efforts on its next-generation Galaxy S series device, the Galaxy S7. It appears that the South Korean smartphone giant will continue to release two variants of its flagship smartphone for at least one more year. The SM-G930 and the SM-G935 are the variants of the Galaxy S7, the former with a flat display and the latter with a dual-edge curved display. It is confirmed that the two variants will be heading to Canada, China, Europe, Korea, and the US. This isn't a full list and the S7 will no doubt launch in all of Samsung's existing markets, but at this point we don't have more information on the matter. Here are the carriers that are said to be currently on-board:
- Canada – Bell Mobility
- Korea – KT, LG Uplus, SKTelecom
- USA – Cricket, AT&T, MetroPCS, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon
The Galaxy S7 is codenamed Project Lucky internally, but the company is referring to these devices as Hero and Hero2. It is expected to be released in two variants, one with an Exynos 8890 processor and the other with the Snapdragon 820 SoC. Qualcomm has already shipped a newer prototype of the Snapdragon 820 chipset to Samsung, and it appears that this new chipset has better performance than the previous prototype. These devices will feature UFS 2.0 storage that is already being used in the Galaxy S6 and other recently released high-end smartphones from the company. Moreover, we have received information that Samsung might have found a way to make microSD card slots work in conjunction with UFS 2.0 storage, but you should take this information with a pinch of salt. In terms of imaging, the company is testing various prototypes, some with a dual camera setup and some with a 20-megapixel ISOCELL camera sensor.
