The next Galaxy phone you buy should be special and worth your cash

Call us biased but if you asked us to recommend a smartphone, we'd tell you to buy a Samsung Galaxy. The Korean giant objectively makes some of the best phones on the market. It's the lone dominant Android smartphone manufacturer. There is no other Android OEM that makes the kind of variety and ships the kind of volumes that Samsung does. The company also offers devices in unique form factors that even make iPhones feel like old relics.

As the smartphone market was expanding in the early 2010s, there was a greater focus on getting people to upgrade to a new model every year. Customers were willing to spend money on upgrading phones every year. That's no longer the case. Customers have now become more mindful of sustainability. They're holding on to their devices for far longer than ever before.

Companies like Samsung have stepped up to support them in this endeavor. The company provides four years of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates for many of its devices. This means that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Galaxy S22 you bought in 2022 will receive new software features until 2026. If the hardware is enough for you until then, there's really no need to upgrade.

Then there's also the fact that the economic condition has changed considerably over the past couple of years. The pandemic has forced people to re-evaluate their spending habits. The world hadn't emerged fully from the pandemic only for it to be hit by the clear signs of an impending recession. With the economies as they are across the globe, it's no surprise that people aren't as willing to spend money on new gadgets as they were in the past.

Life has become a lot more difficult for a lot more people across the globe. Inflation has skyrocketed while incomes continue to shrink. The situation isn't expected to improve anytime soon. It's more important now to focus on value for money. Whatever you spend your money on now should be good enough to scratch that itch of buying the latest tech while also being durable enough to last a long time.

Samsung's foldable smartphones fit the bill. The Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series devices are unique compared to every other device on the market because of their foldable form factor. Samsung has already been selling them for over three years. It's evident that these foldable devices are built to last. Many have been using the same units for over two years without any durability concerns.

Conventional smartphones have become boring. There has hardly been any progress on the design front. These tall slabs of metal and glass have become monotonous. If you're in the market for a new premium device that you're not going to change for a few years, go for something new and exciting. Take the plunge and pick up one of Samsung's foldable smartphones.

The sense of wonder that you get with a foldable smartphone is not something that a traditional candybar-style phone can ever replicate. Even as someone who has been using foldables exclusively for the past three years, it still takes me by surprise just how futuristic this technology feels, despite the fact that the concept itself has been around for decades.

The brilliant way Samsung has executed its vision of foldable smartphones is what makes them a much better option to spend your hard-earned cash on. The durability question has long been settled. Samsung's foldables are already water resistant. The company continues to improve the toughness of its foldable display panels and already uses durable materials like Gorilla Glass to provide best-in-class protection.

Samsung's foldable smartphones also have specifications that are at par with most high-end Android phones. They're capable devices that are fully equipped to easily power any of the apps and games that you want for the next few years. They're also a lot more attainable now, with the Galaxy Z Flip series starting at just $999, coming in cheaper than some Galaxy S series models.

We've already highlighted why the Galaxy S23 series won't be that exciting. This is the right time for customers who spend top dollar on Samsung phones to switch to a device that's worth their money. Fortunately for Samsung, those devices also happen to be part of the Galaxy family.
