The 2017 Reputation Quotient Ratings by Harris Poll shows that Samsung's reputation has suffered its biggest drop in recent years in the United States. Among the 100 corporations that were surveyed, Samsung came in on No. 49. Compared to 2015, Samsung's reputation quotient fell by 46 spots as back then it was ranked at No. 3 even higher than Apple and Google. Samsung has held on to a spot in the top ten over the past three years and just last year the company came in seventh place.
The Harris Poll Reputation Quotient surveys the general public regarding the reputation of the most visible companies in the United States. Around 2.3 million American consumers participated in this survey. It evaluates public perception about these companies across 20 attributes which are further classified into six categories of corporate reputation such as financial performance, workplace environment, vision and leadership, social responsibility, emotional appeal, products and services.
Samsung's reputation is said to have suffered a blow due to the failure of the Galaxy Note 7 as well as the recent legal troubles of its heir Lee Jae-yong who was jailed last week on bribery charges. He's the first leader in Samsung's nearly eight-decade history to be jailed in a criminal investigation.
