Samsung has announced that it has hired Terry Halvorsen, former chief information officer of the US Department of Defence, as executive vice president for its mobile division. The former DoD official retired in February 2017 and used to provide advice and guidance on information technology policies and strategies.

It is being reported that Halvorsen will serve as an advisor to Shin Jong-Kyun, CEO of Samsung's IT and Mobile Communication division. Before joining the US DoD, Halvorsen worked for the US Department of Navy as its CIO and as deputy commander of the US naval network warfare division. He is expected to help Samsung in expanding its presence in the network security segment in Europe and the US.

Samsung developed Knox security suite for its mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, and is trying hard to partner with government and military agencies. The South Korean smartphone giant has been supplying its high-end Galaxy devices to the US DoD since 2014. However, it was revealed that its Tizen platform had a lot of security loopholes, and so did its SmartThings IoT platform.

Samsung is trying to improve its security solution and project the Galaxy S8 as the best smartphone for productivity and information security. The smartphone offers five user authentication features, and it is compatible with the DeX docking station that can turn the Galaxy S8 or S8+ into a desktop PC.
