Samsung recently unveiled the Gear Sport smartwatch. It's going to be the first wearable device from Samsung to ship with Tizen 3.0. The existing Gear S3 happens to be on Tizen 2.4.2. The new firmware should, in theory, bring improvements like improved syncing over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It should also bring UI tweaks, battery life improvements, real-time heart rate tracking and more. It may also allow users to control smart devices with Gear S3.
It was reported recently that all iterations of the Gear S3 will receive the Tizen 3.0 update. Precisely when Samsung intends to roll out this firmware update is a mystery right now.
Control Smart Devices With Gear S3
According to the report, after Tizen 3.0 arrives, users will be able to control smart devices with Gear S3 by just a turn of the bezel. This would make user interaction with connected devices in their home seamless. It does fit in nicely with Samsung's vision for the connected home.
The Gear S3 is likely going to get compatibility for Samsung Connect as well. It's the company's home automation platform that lets them control various devices and appliances when they're in or even out of the house.
An image on Samsung's website reveals that this functionality will be present on the new Gear Sport. Samsung Connect will enable users to control devices like door locks, lights, TV and more with a turn of the bezel. The Gear S3 is reportedly going to receive the same functionality in the next major firmware update.
Samsung is yet to confirm when it's going to release Tizen 3.0 for the Gear S3.
