Last year, Samsung finally broke the Galaxy S Active lineup's AT&T exclusivity by launching the Galaxy S8 Active on Sprint and T-Mobile. It was a move many had been waiting for, but while it was great to see the extra-rugged Galaxy S8 was offered to more consumers, it also meant that more people would be waiting for the eventual Android 8.0 Oreo update on the Active model. And, well, the wait has certainly been long even for regular Galaxy S8 owners, but at least AT&T seems to be rolling out the Galaxy S8 Active Oreo update.
Galaxy S8 Active Oreo update reportedly being rolled out by AT&T
AT&T's support page doesn't mention anything about Oreo for the S8 Active just yet, but a few users seem to have received the update over the weekend. It doesn't seem to be an April Fool's prank, either, though compared to how long previous Active phones have had to wait for such major updates, it's surprising that Oreo is already out for the Galaxy S8 Active. Again, AT&T hasn't said anything yet, and it will also be interesting to see how much time Sprint and T-Mobile will take to release the first big software update for their first Galaxy S Active handset. It won't be too long, hopefully, but you can never tell with North American carriers.
In any case, if you own the AT&T Galaxy S8 Active, you can see if Oreo is available by tapping the Download updates manually option in the Settings » Software update menu on the phone. The update is around 1.2 GB in size, carries build number G892AUCU2BRC5, and includes the March 2018 security patch. Do let us know if the update is indeed available, and if you're wondering what Android 8.0 Oreo brings to your phone, check out our exhaustive coverage. Samsung also has an official infographic listing out the new features, so do take a look at that as well.
