There have been many leaks in the recent past about an unannounced Samsung smartphone with model number SM-G885. According to reports, the device will probably launch as the Galaxy A8 Star in the near future. Giving some credence to these rumors, the device was spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website last week with the Galaxy A Star moniker. Whether it will launch as the Galaxy A Star or Galaxy A8 Star is not yet confirmed, but for now, all the bets are on the latter.
An upgraded Galaxy A8+ (2018)?
The same model has now been spotted on the Wi-Fi Alliance website with the device undergoing Wi-Fi certification. As expected, the certification doesn’t reveal much about the device other than the confirming fact that it will launch with Android 8.0 Oreo onboard. The Galaxy A8 Star undergoing various certifications also indicates that the official launch is not too far.
Initially, the device was believed to be a high-end offering with Galaxy S9+ specs, but the later leaks pointed to an upgraded iteration of the Galaxy A8+ (2018) instead. The Galaxy A8 Star is expected to come with a 6.3-inch FHD+ Infinity Display, in-house Exynos 7885 SoC, 3,700 mAh battery, 4 or 6 GB of RAM, and a dual-camera setup on the back.
The Bluetooth SIG website listed both the Chinese and the international variants of the Galaxy A8 Star. So, contrary to the earlier reports, the smartphone should be available outside China as well when officially launched. Currently, there is no information about pricing or availability.
