Having detailed the May 2018 security patch a few weeks ago, Samsung is now quickly rolling out the latest security maintenance release for compatible devices. Over half a dozen devices have received their May 2018 security patch in the past few days. We reported earlier today that the patch was being released for the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy J4 and the Galaxy A7 (2017).
The company has now started rolling out a new firmware update for the Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy A8 (2018) in select markets. The latest firmware update brings the security patch for the month of May 2018.
May 2018 security patch for the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A8
Samsung is now rolling out firmware version A600FNXXU1ARE7 for the Galaxy A6 bearing model number SM-A600FN in France. The update will soon be available over-the-air but it's already available for download from our firmware database. Interestingly, Samsung already released the May 2018 security patch for the handset in India even before it was officially announced.
The Galaxy A8 (2018) with model number SM-A530F is getting firmware version A530FXXU2ARE1 in Turkey, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and several European markets which include the Netherlands, Russia, Bulgaria, Spain, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Nordic countries and more. It's also readily available for download online. The Galaxy A8+ was among the slew of devices that got this patch just yesterday.
Those of you who have been following the latest patch will already be aware that it contains fixes for six critical vulnerabilities that were discovered in the Android operating system as well as fixes for dozens of moderate and high-risk exploits. Samsung also fixed seven vulnerabilities discovered in its software with this patch as well.
The May 2018 security patch will continue to be rolled out to more compatible smartphones in the days to come so if your device hasn't got it yet, it shouldn't be long now before Samsung pushes one out the door for it as well.
