Samsung has ambitious plans for IoT and has outlined the same on many occasions. The Korean tech giant intends to make all of its products IoT-ready by 2020. In fact, at the CES 2018, the company announced that 90% of its products already have IoT capabilities. As we inch closer to the IoT era, it is safe to expect that, going forward, almost all the new products from Samsung will be IoT-ready.
Continuing its push in the connected smart devices space, Samsung SDS, a subsidiary of Samsung focused on IT solutions, has announced the launch of a new IoT-powered smart door lock, SHP-DR900, in the market. The new model appears to be an upgraded successor to the current smart door lock solutions from Samsung. As to be expected from an IoT device, it can be controlled from a smartphone, even remotely, and can inform users about the door activity in real-time through notifications.
Better battery life and more secure
The company says the SHP-DR900 door lock features a power efficient Wi-Fi chip that can make the device’s battery last twice as long as other offerings in the market. The device features an upgraded fingerprint sensor to improve accuracy and make access more secure. The smart doorknob has a built-in sensor to detect user movements and open the door with a simple touch on the knob when leaving the house.
Samsung says the new smart door lock is also more secure and is equipped with the in-house “Samsung SDS-White Box Cryptography and Samsung SDS-Secure Encapsulation for Application Layer technologies” to guard against any hacking attempts.
Pricing and availability information for the SHP-DR900 is not yet available, but the source report says it will be available globally.
