Samsung showcased a 146-inch modular MicroLED TV named The Wall at the CES 2018 back in January. While unveiling The Wall, Samsung said it would be available for purchase sometime later this year. The company reiterated the timeline again in the Q1 earnings summary in April. As we enter into the second half of 2018, Samsung is revealing more details about The Wall TV.

According to reports in the Korean media, Samsung has finished working on the MicroLED technology and is gearing up for the mass production of The Wall in September. The company started taking orders for The Wall Professional, a variant aimed at businesses, at the InfoComm 2018 in Las Vegas last month. Samsung will be targeting hotels, stadium, museums, luxury mansions etc with this version of The Wall.

The consumer version will be thinner

Samsung plans to bring The Wall MicroLED TV to the consumer market as well. Han Jong-hee, head of Samsung's video and display business, said the company will release a consumer version named The Wall Luxury next year to target the premium large-size TV market. The consumer version will be thinner at 30 mm or less, compared to the 80 mm thickness of the business model.

Han Jong-hee also said Samsung wants The Wall to be called as a display or a screen and not as a TV. Due to the modular nature and bezel-less design, The Wall will not come in fixed sizes like other TVs in the market. Instead, customers can build a size of their own by selecting any number of display pieces they want.

While there is no information about pricing, Han Jong-hee said, “The price will not be as high as people think.” He also believes prices will come down once The Wall enters mass production. You can expect Samsung to showcase The Wall or variants of it again at the IFA 2018 in Berlin next month.
