At Gamescom 2017, Samsung launched the feature-packed CHG90 curved monitor. The high-end monitor was aimed at gamers and boasted a long list of features and certifications to appeal to the target segment. At the same event this year, the company is adding a new ‘affordable’ model CJG5 to its curved monitor lineup. The new model comes in two display sizes: 27-inch (C27JG5) and 32-inch (C32JG5).
The CJG5 monitors sport a bezel-less design, curved VA panel with 1800R curvature, WQHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440), 144Hz refresh rate, and a high contrast ratio of 3000:1. The monitors come with Game and Cinema modes to instantly adjust the picture settings to suit the content. Accessing and changing key settings is also made easy with an On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
Samsung is positioning CJG5 as an ‘affordable' model
Samsung says these monitors will reduce eye fatigue along with offering an immersive and lag-free gaming experience. It is positioning these monitors as ‘affordable,’ and it is true if we compare them to the CHG90 which costs $999. The CJG5 monitors are priced at £310 (~$397) for the 27-inch variant and £360 (~$461) for the 32-inch version. They will be available globally in the third quarter of this year.
Samsung will display the new monitors along with the CHG90 at the ongoing Gamescom 2018 in Cologne, Germany. The company has partnered with many gaming and movie studios to showcase the immersive experience on its curved monitors.
“Due to the rapidly increasing demands of gaming monitors, we sought to offer competitively-priced gaming monitors for more users to benefit from premium technology. With the technological expertise that we have accumulated throughout the years, we are making efforts to accelerate the gaming features such as 144Hz and high WQHD resolution, which will be appreciated by the mass market,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive VP, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics.
