YouTube, the world’s largest video streaming platform, is testing a grey-colored progress bar on its Android app, reports 9To5Google. Currently, it is available only in the beta version of the app, and so far, the new progress bar has been reported by only a few beta users, which suggests that the change is limited to A/B testing.
The progress bar appears in the new color only when the dark mode is enabled and when the video is playing in portrait mode. The progress bar changes its color to red as soon as you interact with it or when the dark mode is turned off. It suggests that Google is testing this change to reduce distractions when using the app in low-light conditions.
Apart from it, the rest of the app seems to have the same set of colors that it did earlier. However, the progress bar could just be the first element to get the dark-mode treatment. Google could give the rest of the app a similar look. That being said, this could just be one of Google’s many experiments that never make it to the stable version of the app.
Recently, Google revamped the design of the YouTube app to bring a translucent background around the video player area and pill-shaped icons and containers for comments. It also brought some of those changes to the YouTube app on smart TVs.
