Samsung revealed the Galaxy Home nine months ago. The company's Bixby-powered smart speaker was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 9 last year. It has certainly been a long wait for this product. Samsung still hasn't confirmed when we can expect the speaker to arrive.
Given just how long it has been, and the fact that Bixby's capabilities haven't really been improved over the past few months, many began to wonder whether Samsung had decided to discontinue the Galaxy Home even before it had been launched. We can now confirm that this isn't the case. It may not be long now before the Galaxy Home release takes place.
Galaxy Home release likely not that far off
Our sources tell us that Samsung is putting the finishing touches on the companion app for the Galaxy Home. It would obviously not be doing that if it had no intention to release the Galaxy Home. The app will allow for easy setup of a Galaxy Home speaker. It will also be used for managing device settings and Bixby services.
The Galaxy Home won't just be a smart speaker like an Amazon Echo. It aims to provide a respectable audio experience as well. No wonder that the Galaxy Home will feature natural sound processing with powerful speakers and a subwoofer which will deliver deep bass. The directional audio speakers will be AKG-tuned. Galaxy Home also gets support for Samsung's smart home ecosystem so it will enable users to control their SmartThings devices with voice commands.
Samsung CEO DJ Koh did say two months ago that the Galaxy Home is going to be released in April this year. That didn't happen but his comments and this latest information suggests that it's only a matter of time now before Samsung finally starts selling the Galaxy Home. Could we see it hit shelves later this month? We don't see a reason why not.
