We were the first to reveal five months ago that Samsung is working on a smaller smart speaker. Whether or not it's launched as the Galaxy Home Mini is another matter altogether. There's mounting evidence that work on this device has been progressing nicely.
An image of the Galaxy Home Mini has been revealed by the device's FCC listing. The fact that it has been through the FCC already suggests that its release may not be that far off. This leads us to ask the obvious question: Where's the Galaxy Home?
FCC filing reveals a Galaxy Home Mini image
Yes, despite being unveiled in August last year, the Galaxy Home has still not been released. We exclusively reported two weeks ago that the Galaxy Home hasn't been discontinued. That's a good sign but Samsung has provided no clarity about its release.
Described as an “AI speaker” in the FCC filing spotted by CNET, the Galaxy Home Mini was tested on Wi-Fi b/g/n networks by the agency. The filing also mentions that it has Bluetooth version 4.2 which is a shame since most recent Samsung phones support Bluetooth 5.0.
The speaker will be smaller in size compared to the Galaxy Home and doesn't appear to have a dedicated stand as well. There's AKG branding on the top to signify that the audio has been tuned by the premium brand. Bixby will obviously be present onboard as it wouldn't quite be a smart speaker without a digital assistant.
The Galaxy Home Mini did pick up its Bluetooth and Wi-Fi certifications three weeks ago. All signs are now pointing to an imminent launch of the device. One would expect Samsung to first release the Galaxy Home but the company's plans in this regard remain a mystery. Will we see both speakers being released at the same time?
