Samsung announced during SDC 2023 in October that Samsung Wallet users in the United States will soon be able to store their digital state IDs in the app. Availability of this feature is going to vary by state.
The company had revealed at that time that Arizona and Iowa would be among the first states that allow their digital state IDs to be added to the app. Arizona has made that happen now, enabling Arizonans to store digital forms of their ID in Samsung Wallet.
Samsung Wallet app can store Arizona digital state IDs now
Arizona Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Division has confirmed that residents of the state can now store a digital form of their state ID and driver's license in Samsung Wallet. Arizona has become the first state to offer Samsung Wallet for carrying and presenting these IDs.
It has already been possible for residents of the state to store their digital IDs on Apple and Google's wallet apps. The state has been quicker than most in adopting this technology, so it doesn't come as a surprise that it's been the first to embrace Samsung Wallet as well.
Samsung had named Iowa as the other state where the ability to store state IDs digitally would be coming in the near future. We'll potentially see Iowa following through on this soon as well. Other states may take their time in enabling this facility, but eventually, we'd see the vast majority of states make this possible for their residents too.
