Meta has announced that users can block Instagram from collecting their data across apps and websites that they visit. This will allow users to stop sharing their data with unknown parties. In an official blog, Meta confirms that users will be able to disconnect their specific activity and also delete the collected data from apps and websites.
The new feature is called ‘Activity Off-Meta Technologies', and it can be found under the Accounts Center of the Instagram application. Notably, this feature was available for Facebook, but now its parent, Meta, has expanded the feature to Instagram as well. Meta gets its information from third-party sources that use its tools, which basically track user activity and help Meta show personalized ads across its platform.
Managing data gets easier thanks to the ability to block Instagram from collecting data
Thanks to the Activity Off-Meta Technologies feature (formerly known as Off-Facebook Activity), users will now be able to get hold of the data that is shared across apps and websites. Instagram users can also review businesses that are using and sharing their data and disconnect from them.
Furthermore, Meta is also adding an option to transfer photos and videos from Instagram to other services. Although it is not clear which services are supported, Meta shares an example of sharing and printing a photo album using Instagram pictures. Moreover, Instagram users can also download information from both Facebook and Instagram simultaneously. Previously, you could only download from one single platform.
