The top-end Galaxy S21 model might offer support for Samsung's S Pen stylus, according to the latest word out of the rumor mill. Leakster Ice Universe tweeted earlier today that he can “100% confirm that S21 Ultra supports S Pen,” which is bound to excite those who have always wanted Samsung to bring stylus support to its premiere flagship line. Of course, it may also be a warning bell for fans of the Galaxy Note family, as there have also been rumors that S Pen support on the Galaxy S series could lead to the demise of Samsung's Note lineup as early as next year.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra‘s S Pen support does not necessarily mean we'll be getting just another Galaxy Note with softer edges, either. Because by all accounts, the smartphone won't feature an actual stylus slot as the Galaxy Note series does.
Don't expect a Galaxy Note equivalent
So, S Pen support essentially just means the Galaxy S21 Ultra will have a digitizer beneath its 120Hz 2K display. The fact that the upcoming flagship will be able to offer such a high refresh ratio at a 1440p resolution may actually be why Samsung opted to include a digitizer in the first place as stylus users should find that combination of specs to offer a significantly improved experience compared to the 1080p 120Hz mode on the Galaxy Note 20 series.
The Galaxy S21 series is currently expected to both launch and release in January. As for what the inclusion of S Pen support to the Galaxy S21 Ultra means for the future of Samsung's mobile portfolio, the company itself hopefully clears things up by the time its next Unpacked event takes place.
