A few days ago, Samsung released the February 2024 security update to the Galaxy S21 series in Europe. A couple of days later, the update was released to the factory-unlocked units of the Galaxy S21 series in the US. The company has now started rolling out the new security update to the carrier-locked units of the Galaxy S21 series in the US.
Galaxy S21 gets February 2024 security update in the US for carrier-locked units
The newest software update for the Galaxy s21, Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra is now available for carrier-locked units in the USA. The update comes bearing firmware version G99xUSQSAFXAI and is available on Sprint and T-Mobile networks. Since it is just a security update, it only brings the February 2024 security patch and nothing else. So, the download size of the update is relatively small compared to updates that bring new features. The latest update fixes 72 security vulnerabilities discovered in the previous software version.
If you have a Galaxy S21 series phone in the US and if it is a carrier-locked unit, you can now check for the new update on your device. To do that, open the Settings app on your phone, navigate to Software update, and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our database and flash it manually. You need to know about the manual firmware flashing process, though, and have access to a computer running the Windows OS and having the Odin tool installed.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series in early 2021 with Android 11 onboard. The phones in the lineup received the Android 12 update in late 2021, the Android 13 update in late 2022, and the Android 14 update a few months ago. It will get one more Android OS update in the future, but before that, it will get the One UI 6.1 update, which is based on Android 14.
If you are thinking of upgrading from the Galaxy S21, you should seriously consider the Galaxy S24 series. It comes with plenty of upgrades in the cameras, display, processing, and battery life. More importantly, it comes with seven years of Android OS updates, which is a huge deal. You can watch our Galaxy S24 Ultra review in the video below.
