Samsung Galaxy Chromebooks may soon get easy access to the Google Tasks web app. More specifically, ChromeOS itself might get a native Tasks app integrated into the system tray, which means Galaxy Chromebook users should eventually benefit from this update if it indeed becomes available.
Evidence of Google developing this feature was found recently in the Chromium Gerrit by About Chromebooks. However, the code behind the Google Tasks web app integration with ChromeOS seems incomplete and a work in progress. So, it doesn't look like the feature is coming very soon.
As of now, Galaxy Chromebook users can't access Google Tasks without launching another Google app first. They are required to open Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets. And only then can they select Tasks on the right side of the screen and open the web app.
With its in-progress implementation, by the looks of it, Google may prioritize simplicity over complexity and bring easy access to Tasks via the system tray. The source says the UI code for the Tasks app on ChromeOS uses a “bubble view,” noting that Google uses the bubble view code for things like video conferencing controls. The UI sits in the taskbar, and hovering over the taskbar icon offers bits of information and sometimes additional actions.
The source also says it's too early to judge how the final design will look, but as of now, the Tasks app on ChromeOS is designed to be visible in the system tray near the quick settings status info and the calendar. Samsung Chromebooks, such as the Chromebook 2 360, would be prime contenders for this feature if Google starts pushing it out for ChromeOS.
