Exynos could take an interesting direction, if we go by a random rumor

Samsung appears to have pumped some life back into its Exynos chip line with the release of the Exynos 2400, and you can be almost certain that the company is now working on a follow-up silicon for next year. Everyone expects the upcoming chip to be called Exynos 2500, and new rumors concerning Samsung's plans has emerged on X (formerly Twitter).

The source behind these rumors (@OreXda) doesn't have the most accurate track record, but for what it's worth, Samsung will supposedly switch to a Google TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) for the Exynos 2500. The latter chip should power the Galaxy S25 lineup next year.

While the Exynos 2200 and Exynos 2400 have in-house Neural Processing Units (NPU), the upcoming Exynos 2500 chip will supposedly use a Google-made Tensor solution (TPU) that would boost the SoC's AI and machine learning (ML) capabilities.

With the release of the Galaxy S24, AI features have become an integral part of the Galaxy user experience, and Samsung is planning to develop new AI applications. However, the company relies on Google backend technologies to run Galaxy AI, so even though this rumor might seem a bit “out there,” it would make some sense for Samsung to want to use a TPU for Exynos.

Exynos 2500 to be split between two series

The rumors about the upcoming Exynos 2500 chip don't stop with the Google TPU. According to the same source, another interesting change might happen to the in-house chip. Namely, Samsung is supposedly developing two variants of the Exynos 2500, each aimed at a different segment.

According to this information, there's an Exynos 2500-A variant aimed at future Galaxy phones — such as the Galaxy S25 — and an Exynos 2500-B model for Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Book devices.

In-depth specifications are missing, but the Exynos 2500-A variant would supposedly have eight CPU cores, which might seem like a step back from the current Exynos 2400 deca-core configuration. However, the Exynos 2500-B variant for Tabs and Books would allegedly feature 10 CPU cores.

Whether any of this information will turn out accurate is to be determined. These alleged changes to Samsung's strategy would make for an interesting turn of events for the Exynos chip line. However, the information can't be confirmed, so, it's better to take it with a pinch of salt.
