Amid the hustle and bustle of the ongoing CES 2024 expo, Samsung has forgotten to release its new security patch to older phones. The Galaxy Note 20 series started getting the January 2024 security patch in the US earlier this week. The devices in the lineup are now getting the new security update in other regions, including Europe and Latin America.
Galaxy Note 20 series gets January 2024 security update in Europe and Latin America
The new software update for the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with firmware version N98xFXXS9HXA1. It is currently available in Argentina, Colombia, and Switzerland, and we expect the update to expand its availability to more countries within the next few days.
The January 2024 security patch fixes 74 security flaws that were discovered in the previous software version, so your Galaxy Note 20 series device should be more secure and reliable after installing the newest update. Don't expect the update to bring any new features or performance improvements.
If you have a Galaxy Note 20 or a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and live in any of the countries mentioned above, you should check for the new update now. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update » Download and install. You can also resort to downloading the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually. However, you would need a computer running the Windows operating system and the Odin tool installed on that PC for the manual firmware flashing process.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 20 in mid-2020 with Android 10 onboard. The devices in the series received the Android 11 update later that year and the Android 12 update in late 2021. Android 13 was their last major update, and it arrived in late 2022. The phones won't get the Android 14 update that is currently rolling out to newer phones.
