Samsung has started rolling out the August 2023 security update to the Galaxy S21 FE. The new update is available in several countries worldwide, including those in Europe, Latin America, and North America. African and Asian countries haven't received the latest update for the Galaxy S21 FE yet.
Galaxy S21 FE August 2023 security update: What's new?
The new software update for the Galaxy S21 FE comes bearing firmware version G990BXXS6EWG9 in European countries. Samsung launched a slightly newer version of the Galaxy S21 FE in Europe with model number SM-G990B2, and those units are getting the recent security update with firmware version G990B2XXS5EWG9. In Brazil (on all its carrier models), the Galaxy S21 is getting the updated software with firmware version G990EXXS7EWH2.
In the US, the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy S21 FE is getting the new software update with firmware version G990USQS8EWG3 on Dish, Metro PCS, and T-Mobile's networks. The latest update fixes over 70 security vulnerabilities in the phone.
If you have a Galaxy S21 FE and live in any of the countries mentioned above, you can check for the new software update on your Galaxy S21 FE. If the update is available, you can install it by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually using a computer running a Windows operating system and Samsung's Odin firmware flashing tool.
Samsung is expected to release the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update to the Galaxy S21 FE before the end of this year. The phone was launched with Android 12 onboard and received the Android 13 update in late 2022.
